TWO POSITIONS AVAILABLE (Team Leader and Senior Mental Health Nurse)

Following recent additional funding to support intensive clinical community mental health care, CYMHS is establishing a new team – the Intensive Eating Disorders Service (Family Therapy) Team.

The Intensive Eating Disorders (Family Therapy) Team Leader, in partnership with the Team Consultant Psychiatrist will oversee and lead the continued development of the eating disorders service within CYMHS, with a particular focus on embedding effective evidence based family therapy and group therapy interventions for young people presenting with an eating disorder. While the primary focus of this role is to improve the outcomes for complex eating disorder clients, there may be opportunity to establish other intensive family therapy and group therapy programs within CYMHS.

About the role

Eastern Health’s Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) is seeking a Team Leader with qualifications in Family Therapy AND occupational therapy, social work, clinical psychology or mental health nursing AND with a particular interest and experience in working with people with an eating disorder.

As the successful applicant, you will bring significant experience in the provision of evidence based care mental health care of young people and families presenting with complex mental health difficulties, and in operational, financial and clinical leadership. 

As the Team Leader, you will have a key role in establishing this newly developed service in partnership with the Team Consultant Psychiatrist.  Together you will lead the team to develop an innovative model of care that supports the provision of effective evidence based family therapy and group therapy interventions for young people up to the age of 25 years presenting with an eating disorder, with a particular focus on improving the outcomes for young people presenting with complex eating disorders that have not responded to usual treatment from one of our community teams. 

Key components of the team’s functions will include:

  • provision of direct, intensive clinical case management and treatment for referred young people and their families, and include outreach, in-home meal support, intensive family and group therapies
  • assessment and care planning
  • clinical consultation and support to CYMHS (and AMHS) teams
  • coordination and delivery of multifamily therapy for anorexia nervosa
  • development of improved pathways of care for people within the mental health program experiencing a severe and complex eating disorder
  • delivery of secondary consultation and community education to key stakeholders across the eastern metropolitan region.
